AUI-S Says Students are Free to Exercise Their Right of Free Speech

A group of American University of Iraq-Sulaimani students are going to join the demonstrations at Liberation Square on Thursday, and Dr. James Harrigan, AUI-S Dean of students, says, "the students are free to express themselves."
Here is the letter of Dr. James Harrigan sent out to the AUI-S students:

Dear Students,

As many of you know, there has been a call for involvement on the part of AUI-S students in the demonstrations in Sulaimani.  It is, and has always been AUI-S policy that students are free to express themselves as they see fit.  When they do so, they do so as private citizens.  They do not represent the institutional views of AUI-S. There has been a good deal of misinformation in the press, and we want to make clear that students are free to exercise their right of free speech in their private lives.  Financial aid and scholarship decisions are not tied to any of these concerns.

Sincerely,

James R. Harrigan
Dean of Students
American University of Iraq-Sulaimani
